2x + 1y = 54 and 3x + 2y = 32

You must solve each one for y first:

2x + y = 54               3x + 2y = 32
     y = 54 - 2x               2y = 32 - 3x
                                y = 32%2F2 - 3%2F2x
                                y = 16 - 3%2F2x
