 For g(4), you sub 4 for x.  I don't see how synthetic, or any sort of division, has anything to do with that.
 g(4) = 9*256 - 8*16 - 9*4 - 5
 g(4) = 2304 - 128 - 36 - 5
 g(4) = 2135

 Do the same with 5.
