g=number of girls, b=number of boys
g+b=36
g=2b+6
.
2b+6+b=36 replace g with 2b+6 in 1st equation.
3b+6=36
3b=30 subtract 6 from each side.
b=10 divide each side by 3.
g+10=36
g=26
