Joe flew his small airplane 900 km in 5 hours with the wind. He flew 700 km against the wind in 7 hours. Find the rate at which he flew in still air and the rate of the wind. I have to use this table to solve it

7(r-w)=700

Question 256884: "One pipe can fill a pool 1.25 times faster than a second pipe. When both pipes are opened, they fill the pool in five hours. How long would it take to fill the pool if only the slower pipe is used?" Here is how I'm looking at it. The fast pipe is an unknown (f), the slow pipe is 1.25 times slower than the fast pipe (1.25f) and working together, they equal (5). Then I break them into units: 1/f + 1/1.25f = 1/5. How do I correctly determine the LCD?

I want to say 21 hours but that would be too easy??

Question 260336: It takes me 3 hours to mow my lawn. It takes John 2 hours to mow my lawn. If we mow my lawn together how long will it take us? My first instinct was to add 3 and 2 to get 5 and then divide that by two to find the average and divide that number by two again since they are working on it together. I'm not sure if that is the right thing to do though.
