Question 441844: a roofer spends 12 hours to shingle a roof alone. The roofer quits after 3 hours and the helper spends another 12 hours to finish. how long would it take the helper alone to do the whole job?
Work Attempted:
12/3=(12+x)/15
I have tried a few different ways and keep coming back to an answer of 60 hours; I am not comfortable with this answer.

Stan can load his truck in 24 minutes. If his brother helps him, it takes them 15 minutes to load it. How long does it take Stan's brother alone?
I have tried to make a chart (using work rate*time=work done) but all I could figure out was that Stan's work rate was 1/24. Please help.

I think it is as follows???.....
5 people took 45 mins therefore each person did the equivalent of 9 mins worth of work....with 2 less people (18 mins worth) you need to add the 18 mins to the 45 mins that the 5 people managed to do the job in ...the answer being 63mins?
