Question 765883: if 3 men take 6 hours to shear 5 sheeps.how much time will 5 men take to shear 80 sheeps?
Answer by josgarithmetic(39613) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! You can estimate the rate for one man to do the job of 5 sheep, but this is only theoretical and would not transfer as practical:
3 men__________6 hours_________job is 5 sheep;
1 man__________6*3 hours_______same job of 5 sheep.
That is a theoretical 1 job per 18 hours, or jobs per hour.
New situation, is 5 men to do 80 sheep. The rate of each man is added for every man in the team or group, so this group's rate is five-sheep jobs per hour. This group of shearers has 80 sheep to shear which is jobs.
The main uniform rates relationship is in which r is rate of doing the job, x is the amount of time which is hours in the current example, and j is how much or many jobs.
Using that equation and let x = time in hours to do the work,

hours.
----------------------------
In case you wonder why not x is not 57 hours and 36 minutes, well......
hypothetically, x IS 57 hours and 36 minutes, but that much accuracy is more than reasonable. Our original rate was given to the nearest hour, and we were given no accuracy information. If you did the problem and independently found 57.6 hours, or 57 hours and 36 minutes, then you did well.
