You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1/2 + 1/4 = 1/x
Denominator = 4x
2x + x = 4
3x = 4
x = 4/3
x = 1 1/3 hours
x = 1 hour 20 minutes
Hope this helps.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
add their rates of painting
1st man's rate: ( 1 room ) / ( 4 hrs )
2nd man's rate: ( 1 room ) / ( 2 hrs )
Rate working together: ( 1 room ) / ( x hrs )
---------------------------------------
+1%2F4+%2B+1%2F2+=+1+%2F+x+
Multiply both sides by +4x+
+x+%2B+2x+=+4+
+3x+=+4+
+x+=+4%2F3+
Both working together will take +4%2F3+ hrs, or
1 hr 20 min
