Question 143224: If it takes sally 4 hours to paint house and Jim 6 hours to paint house. how long will it take to paint house together?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If Sally can paint 1 house in 4 hours, she can paint 1%2F4 of a house in 1 hour. Likewise, Jim can paint 1%2F6 of a house in 1 hour.

Together they can paint 1%2F4%2B1%2F6 house in 1 hour.

Complete the sum above and then take the reciprocal (invert the fraction) to get the time for both to complete the house together. Note -- your answer MUST be smaller than 4 hours. That's because Sally can do the job in 4 hours but now that Jim is helping, the job must go faster than that.

By the way, how can I get in touch with this Sally person? If she can really paint a house in 4 hours, I want to hire her.
