Question 1171268: how would you represent the amount of work that peter can finish in1hour?how about the amount of work that Paul can finish in 1hour? if they work together, what equation would represent the amount of work they can finish in 1 hour?
Answer by Theo(13342) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
you would take the amount of work performed and divide it by the number of hours it took to complete it.
if he painted a house in 50 hours, then you take 1 and divide it by 50 to find that he painted 1/50th of the house in 1 hour.
if it took him 25 hours to walk 100 miles, then he walked at a rate of 100 / 25 = 4 miles per hour.
the formula to use is rate * time = amount of work performed.
if you know the amount of work performed and you know the time it took to do that work, then the rate that you do that work is equal to the amount of work performed divided by the number of hours it took to perform that work.
