Question 1152251: It takes a smaller hose 3 times as long to fill a small swimming pool as it does a larger hose. It takes both hoses working together 30 minutes to fill the swimming pool. How long will it take the smaller hose to fill the pool by itself? Do not do any rounding. Found 2 solutions by josgarithmetic, greenestamps:Answer by josgarithmetic(39616) (Show Source):
Since the smaller hose takes 3 times as long as the larger hose to fill the pool, when they are working together the larger hose does 3/4 of the work and thesmaller hose does 1/4 of the work.
That means in 30 minutes the smaller hose fills 1/4 of the pool; therefore it would take the smaller hose 30*4=120 minutes to fill the pool alone.
