You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.

Machine A worked 3.5 hours, then it was broken.

In 3.5 hours, machine A completed  3.5%2F6 = 7%2F12 of the whole work;

so,  5%2F12  remained to do.

Machine B has rate of work  1%2F9  of the job per hour;

so machine B will complete the remaining work in  %28%285%2F12%29%29%2F%28%281%2F9%29%29 = %285%2A9%29%2F12 = %285%2A3%29%2F4 hours = 15%2F4 hours = 33%2F4 hours = 3 hours and 45 minutes.   ANSWER
