Question 1115468: A tank has two pipes. One pipe that can fill it with water in three hours and another pipe that can empty it in six
hours. If both pipes are open, how long will it take to fill the empty tank? Found 2 solutions by josgarithmetic, ikleyn:Answer by josgarithmetic(39631) (Show Source):
First pipe fills of the tank volume per hour.
Second pipe drains of the tank volume per hour.
The net inflow is the positive difference - = of the tank volume per hour.
Hence, it will take 6 hours to fill the tank if both pipes are open.
