This problem makes the assumption that after
a liquid is added to a different liquid, they
become thoroughly mixed.
-----------------------------------------
liters of wine
and liters water
-----------------------------
liters of the mixture is removed

liters is wine

liters is water
Then liters of water is added
-------------------------------------
Now there is:
liters of wine
liters of water

7/12 of the final mixture is water

Answer by JThomson(12)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!

After 5 litres of wine is removed and 5 litres of water added, the ratio of

wine to water is 25 : 5;

Thus there is 5/6 wine and 1/6 water in the mixture now;

When 12 litres of the mixture is removed;

(5/6)×12 = 10 litres of wine is removed;

Also (1/6)×12 = 2 litres of water is removed.

Ratio of wine to water remaining is (25-10):(5-2)= 15:3;

After 12 litres of water has been added to mixture, ratio of wine to water

becomes, 15:(3+12) = 15:15 = 1:1

Fraction of water in the mixture now is 1/2.
