6 men dig a ditch in 4 days
they dig (1/4) ditch in a day.
In 3 days, they dig 3/4 a ditch.
If there are 4/3 the number of men, they would dig a full ditch in 3 days
That would be 6*(4/3)=8 men.

Here is my preference for solving this problem.

The amount of time has been reduced by a factor of 3/4; that means the number of men must be increased by a factor of 4/3. Then
6+%2A+%284%2F3%29+=+8

It will take 8 men to do the job in 3 days.
