In this video lesson I show how to solve root equations. First of all, a root equation is any sort of equation where you need to solve for a variable, and somewhere in that equation the variable happens to be inside of a square root. To be able to solve the equation, you have to get rid of the square root, and how to do this depends on different possible cases. Sometimes you only have one square root, so you move it to one side of the equation and move everything else to the other side and you square both sides. Sometimes there are two square roots. Sometimes you end up with a quadratic equation to solve, or a linear equation. Whichever the situation, once the square roots are gone, you know what to do, and you can solve for x. It is extra important to check that all solutions work, because when dealing with root equations, erroneous solutions come up frequently. For more details, look at the video!
