Question 42285: Here it is copied and pasted exactly out of the book.
Construction. A garden area is 30 ft long and 20 ft wide. A path of uniform width is set around the edge. If the remaining garden area is 400 ft^2, what is the width of the path?
Paul answered it as
400=(30+2x)(20+20)-(30*20)
400 = 4x^2 + 100x
x^2 + 25x - 100 = 0
Solve that and you get x = 3.5'
You replied with this can't be solved, so I am confused now.

Question 65693: Solve the equation:
sqrtx+4 = 3
I tried to keep this seperated because the square root is x + 4.
I am going to assume I need to make X equal the 3 leaving me with this:
X= -1
sqrt-1+4 = 3
Is this the right process?

Question 65701: Simplify by combining like terms:
(sqrt3 + 5)(sqrt3 - 3)
The like terms would be the three's?
From here I believe I could combine them by doing the math:
(sqrt3 + 5)(sqrt3 - 3)=
(sqrt3 + 5)(sqrt0)=
(sqrt3 + 5)
From here where do I head, or am I already gone to far?
Thank you
