long side is 12
x is the straight side
8 is the bottom of the triangle
x2 = 122 + 82
= 144 + 64
= 208
This is completely wrong! where am I failing? I believe I am using the wrong formula. Help me.

Question 41613: I have an equation that is stumping me. (sqrt5x+5)-15=0
I have solved it down to 5x = 230
x = 230 over 5
From this point on I am stuck. Have I done something wrong or where do I go to finish it?

Question 41973: I am sorry if I picked the wrong type of question, I did not see one about completion of squares. I was wondering if you wouldnt mind checking the answer I got for the equation x^2-8x=25. What I calculated as a final answer was
4+ 3i and 4-3i.

Construction. A garden area is 30 ft long and 20 ft wide. A path of uniform width is set around the edge. If the remaining garden area is 400 ft^2, what is the width of the path?
Paul answered it as
400=(30+2x)(20+20)-(30*20)
400 = 4x^2 + 100x
x^2 + 25x - 100 = 0
Solve that and you get x = 3.5'
You replied with this can't be solved, so I am confused now.

The demand equation for a certain type of printer is given by
D= -200p + 35,000
The supply equation is predicted to be
S= -p2 + 400p - 20,000
Find the equilibrium price.
-200p + 35,000 = -p2 + 400p - 20,000
-p2 - 400p - 20,000 = 0
a = 1 b = -400 c = 20,000
D = - 200(58.58) + 35,000 = -11,716 + 35,000
= 23,284
S= -(58.58)2 + 400(58.58) - 20,000
D = - 200(341.42) + 35,000 = -68284 + 35,000
= 33284

I somehow came up with SQRT(3)(2SQRTa^3b^3a+9bSQRTa^5b)but thats not the correct answer and I need to learn all the steps to come to the correct answer so I'll know for futre problems like this. Thank you!

12. x^(3/4) + 5/[x^(1/4)] (you may assume x>0)
I'm not sure what to do with this problem, I came to the incorrect answer of x+5/[x^(1/4)]. I thought mabye I could rewrite it as x^(3/4) + [5x^(3/4)] / x and then factor out the x^(3/4). But I'm not sure how to do all this. I'd really appreciate your help, thanks!
