Question 73007: How would someone describe this topic, I am new to algebra? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated... Thank you
While the radical symbol is widely used, converting to rational exponents has advantages. Explain an advantage of rational exponents over the radical sign. Include in your answer an example of an equation easier to solve as a rational exponent rather then a radical sign.

Question 73436: How can I solve 2 square root of 7t times square root of 14t? I came out with 2 square root of 98t squared, then 2 square root of 49 times 2t squared followed by 2 times 7 square root of 2. My answer was 14t square root of 2. Is this correct? I don't know how to write out the problem, I hope this is okay.

Question 73641: solve the radical equation
[sq.rt.of(x-4)] + [sq.rt.of(x+4)] = 4
[sq.rt.of(x-4)] = 4 - [sq.rt.of(x+4)]
[sq.rt.of(x-4)]^2 = {4 - [sq.rt.of(x+4)]}^2
(x-4) = 16 - 8[sq.rt.of(x+4)] + (x+4)
x-4 - (x+4) - 16 = -8[sq.rt.of(x+4)]
-24 = -8[sq.rt.of(x+4)]
3 = [sq.rt.of(x+4)]
3^2 = [sq.rt.of(x+4)]^2
9 = x+4
x = 5
check by substituting X=5 in the given problem
[sq.rt.of(x-4)] + [sq.rt.of(x+4)] is it = 4
[sq.rt.of(5-4)] + [sq.rt.of(5+4)] is it = 4
[sq.rt.of(1)] + [sq.rt.of(9)] is it = 4
1+3 is it = 4
4=4; then the solution set is {5}
