models the number of plant species, f(x), on the islands of the Galapagos in terms of the area, x, in square miles, of a particular island.
What is the area of a Galapagos island that has 87 species of plants?
What is the area of a Galapagos island that has 58 species of plants?

f(x) is the number of plant species. So use the given equation and solve for x:
87=29%2Ax%5E%281%2F3%29
Get the x term alone on one side:
x%5E%281%2F3%29=87%2F29
x%5E%281%2F3%29=3
Cube both sides of the equation to solve for x:
x=3%5E3
x=27 square miles.
