Here's one approach to finding the negative cube root of 64:
First, find the prime factors of 64:
64+=+2%2A2%2A2%2A2%2A2%2A2 Now group these into three groups as shown below.
64+=+highlight%282%2A2%29%2Ahighlight%282%2A2%29highlight%282%2A2%29 Now rewrite this as:
64+=+4%2A4%2A4 or:
64+=+4%5E3 Now take the cube root of both sides:
sqrt%2864%29+=+sqrt%284%5E3%29 You will have to visualise the 3 on the radical for the cube root.
Cube root of 64 = 4, but you need the negative of that, so...
-cube root of 64 = -4
