Square both sides. Simplify. Square both sides again and simplify; solve for y.

Actually, this equation will not really require going formally through the second squaring phase because simplification will be very uncomplicated.

From the first squaring step:
y-9=y-2sqrt%28y%29%2B1
-10=-2sqrt%28y%29
sqrt%28y%29=5
highlight%28y=25%29
