Question 608344: I need help with figuring out how binomials can be solved when you have a fraction with a variable. For example,

sqrt+%282%29+%2F+sqrt+%284%29and solve it. My teacher told me that you have to multiply the denominator by both the numerator and the denominator. so then the answer would be +sqrt+%288%29+%2F+4. So i don't understand why she does that.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
sqrt+%282%29+%2F+sqrt+%284%29
sqrt%284%29+=+2
= sqrt+%282%29%2F2
Not a good example.
---------
2%2Fsqrt%283%29
Multiply NUM & DEN by sqrt(3)
= 2sqrt%283%29%2Fsqrt%289%29
= 2sqrt%283%29%2F3
---------
The idea is to get the radicals out of the denominator.
