Call the number x.

Square root of 5 more than means add sqrt%285%29 to something.

Add it to what? More than twice the number. That's 2x.

2x%2Bsqrt%285%29 is 7 means = 7.

2x%2Bsqrt%285%29=7

Subtract sqrt%285%29 from both sides.

2x=7-sqrt%285%29

Divide both sides by 2.

x=%287-sqrt%285%29%29%2F2+=+2.38196601

The square root of 5 more than twice a number is 7. Find the number

Let the number be N

Then, based on given info., we have: sqrt%282N+%2B+5%29+=+7

%28sqrt%282N+%2B+5%29%29%5E2+=+7%5E2 ------ Squaring equation

2N + 5 = 49

2N = 44

N, or number = 44%2F2, or highlight_green%2822%29

You should be able to do your own check!
