Question 490643: Im trying to solve for y
y * 2 + sqroot (3) = 5 + sqroot (3)
So far I have isolated y and end up with the fraction of
5 + sqroot (3)
--------------
2 + sqroot (3)
I dont know how to solve the rest.
I know the answer is 7 - 3 sqroot(3)
So maybe Im just using the wrong technique to solve it?
Thanks in Advance

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
y+%28+2+%2B+sqrt+%283%29%29+=+5+%2B+sqrt+%283%29
y++=+%285+%2B+sqrt+%283%29%29%2F%28+2+%2B+sqrt+%283%29%29...multiply nominator and denominator by %28+2-+sqrt+%283%29%29

...note that %28%28+2+%2B+sqrt+%283%29%29%28+2-+sqrt+%283%29%29%29=2%5E2-%28sqrt+%283%29%5E2%29

y++=+%2810+-+3%2Asqrt+%283%29+-+3%29%2F%28+4+-+3%29

y++=+%287+-+3%2Asqrt+%283%29+%29%2F+1

y++=+7+-+3%2Asqrt+%283%29+
