Subtract 2 from both sides
sqrt%2812+-+2x%29+=+x+-+2
Square both sides
12+-+2x+=+x%5E2+-+4x+%2B+4
x%5E2+-+2x++=+8
x%5E2+-+2x+%2B+1+=+8+%2B+1
%28x+-+1%29%5E2+=+9
Take the square root of both sides
x+-+1+=+3
x+=+4
and
x+-+1+=+-3
x+=+-2 This only works if the square root is negative)
The real solution is x = 4
