Question 223569: I would like help with being able to solve this equation
w^4-6w^2-2=0
Thanks you

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Do you know the foil method?
You split the first term x^4 in half and rewrite as so:
(w^2+_)(w^2+_)
the _ represents the spot where a number belongs, they may be different.
these numbers are found by guess and check as im sure you know.
sometimes you wont be able to find numbers that work.
that is the case in this problem.
so use the quadratic formula to find the answers.
[-b=+/-sqr_root(b^2-4ac)]/2a
a=constant in front of the term with the largest power of x which in this case. is x^4, and the coefficient is 1.
c=constant, and it will have no x after it. Its -2 in this problem.
b=the remaining term. the remaining term is -6.
!if the constant a,b, or c has a - sign in front of it don't forget to include it!
plug a, b, and c into the formula and simplify as much as possible rounding the answer if you are ask to.
and thats all there is to it.
i hope that was helpful.
let me know if you still don't understand and ill explain it to you further :)
