That is, the numerator of the fraction within the radical is first 1, then the latter 1 is plus the square root of 2 with a denominator of 2 . Then the denominator of the entire radical is 2. I know that this first fractional radical can be simplified to a radical with the numerator of 2 plus the square root of 2 with a denominator of 4. But I do not know the process whereby the first radical is simplified to the next radical. I would appreciate very much an explanation about how this first radical is simplified to the second radical.
