: I'm having problems with this problem. Can someone help?
Here's the problem...The average (mean) cost for a service club to publish a directory of its members is given by the rational function f(x)=1.15x+700 over x where x is the number of directories printed. Find the average cost per directory for x=1000.
I just can't figure this one out!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
f%28x%29=%281.15x%2B700%29%2Fx Start with the given function.

f%281000%29=%281.15%281000%29%2B700%29%2F1000 Plug in x=1000

f%281000%29=%281150%2B700%29%2F1000 Multiply

f%281000%29=1850%2F1000 Add

f%281000%29=37%2F20 Reduce

So the solution is f%281000%29=37%2F20 which approximates to f%281000%29=1.85

So average cost per directory is about $1.85
