Using the Pythagorean theorem
a^2 + b^2 = c^2
Since we have a square,
a^2 + a^2 = c^2
2a^2 = c^2
We are given the diagonal 2%2Asqrt%282%29
Substituting this for c
2a%5E2+=+%282%2Asqrt%282%29%29%5E2
2a%5E2+=+%284%2A2%29
divide each side by 2
a%5E2+=+%284%29
Take the square root of each side
a = 2
