This Lesson (Products of Square Roots (Radicals)* (YouTube Video of Dr. Rapalje)) was created by by rapaljer(4671) : View Source, ShowAbout rapaljer: Retired Professor of Mathematics from Seminole State College of Florida after 36 years.
This video, from one of my Basic Algebra classes (circa 1994), explains how to simplify products of square roots. It should be helpful for students in
Basic or Intermediate Algebra or Algebra I, and perhaps a quick review for higher math classes.
As in previous sections about square roots, make sure that you KNOW (memorize by heart!) the PERFECT SQUARES:
These are the critical numbers to KNOW and recognize: 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64, 81, 100, 121, 144, 169
This section begins with very simple products, such as which is obviously . The exercises can get ugly fast, so practice on the easy ones to get ready for the longer problems.
As I always say, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!! Calculating the decimal value of the problem and comparing to the decimal value of your answer -- before you turn in your test or homework--can be very helpful!!
For explanations, examples, and exercises for ALL topics from Basic, Intermediate, and College Algebra, and
Practice Tests for ALL levels of math from Pre-Algebra to Calculus III and Differential Equations with DETAILED SOLUTIONS, please see my website at www.mathinlivingcolor.com!!
