Question 49056: I am not sure how to go about changing the following problem into standard form. I tried to do completing the square, but I'm not sure how to use it in this situation or when there is a coefficient other than 1 in front of x^2 and y^2. I would greatly appreciate help on how to solve the following problem. Thanks!
Change the equation to standard form and name the figure.
3x^2-2y^2-12x-20y-44=0

Question 55971: I'm in Chapter 6 section 6. Its about Alalyzing Graphs of Quadratic Functions. the problem looks like this: y=5x(squared) -6
my question is when you write the quadratic funcionin vertex form, do you factor out a 5 and just have your x*x remaining and then subtract 6, or do you have x*x squared?

Question 55980: Hello, I am having a lot of trouble in algebra II right now with graphing parabolas. Could you do me a favor, and write out the steps in graphing a parabola. For example: Step 1: (blah blah blah)
Step 2: (...)
Maybe an example problem would be: x(squared)=8y
Thanks again.

Question 57244: 1. A ball follows a flight given by y = 20x - x^2 + 6 where x represents the horizontal distance traveled in feet and y represents the height of the ball in feet. What will be the maximum height of this ball if it is thrown?
2. If x=2, x=-3 and x=0 are zeros of a polynomial, what is a possible equation for this polynomial?
3. What is the vertex of the graph given by
y=2x^2 - 4x + 3? Would the graph be a shift of y=2x^2?
4. Write the equation of the parabola given by y=2x^2-4x+3 in "standard" form.
Thank you very much!!

Question 58609: I needed to find the vertex of this parabola: y = -x^2 - 3x - 2
so what I did was:
0 = -x^2 - 3x - 2
x = -1, x = -2
Two x-intercepts: (-1, 0) and (-2, 0)
y = -0^2 - 3(0) - 2 = -2
One y-intercept: (0, -2)
x = 1/2(-1 - 2) = -3/2
y = -3/2
y = -3/2 - 2)-3/2) - 2 = 1.5
Vertex is -3/2, 1.5
Is this correct?
