Question 938732: While doing my homework I forgot some of the things we haven't reviewed in awhile. For example: How do you convert y^2 8y -12x 4=0 into vertex form? Then how do you find focus and directrix? Thank you for taking the time to help me. Answer by kros(3) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Just use the completing square method and write it as:
y^2 8y = 12x-4
= y^2 8y 16= 12(x-1/3),
= (y 4)^2=12(x-1/3)
you've 4p=12, p=3... Parabola opens to the right...thus,
vertex V(1/3, -4) & directrix, l=x-p= -8/3.
