Question 807604: Could you help me to write the equation of an ellipse with intercepts (-3,0), (3,0), (0,6), (0,-6). Then find the foci. I am so confused.
Thank you for your help with this problem.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! write the equation of an ellipse with intercepts (-3,0), (3,0), (0,6), (0,-6). Then find the foci.

Given ellipse has a vertical major axis with center at (0,0).
Its standard form of equation:
length of vertical major axis=12=2a
a=6(distance from center to y-intercepts)
a^2=36
length of minor axis=6=2b
b=3(distance from center to x-intercepts)
b^2=9
c^2=a^2-b^2=36-9=25
c=±√25=±5(distance from center to foci on the major axis)
foci: (0,0±5)=(0,5)and(0,-5)
