Question 722133: Can someone please help me..
Skip designs tracks for amusement park rides. For a new design, the track will be elliptical. If the ellipse is placed on a large coordinate grid with its center at (0,0), the equation x^2/2500+y^2/8100=1 models the path of the track. The units are given in yards. How long is the major axis of the track? Explain hoy you found the distance.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

When the center of the ellipse is at the origin (0,0):
x%5E2%2Fa%5E2%2By%5E2%2Fb%5E2=1......for ellipses with horizontal major axes
x%5E2%2Fb%5E2%2By%5E2%2Fa%5E2=1......for ellipses with vertical major axes

we will use this one in your case
x%5E2%2Fb%5E2%2By%5E2%2Fa%5E2=1
x%5E2%2F2500%2By%5E2%2F8100=1
x%5E2%2F50%5E2%2By%5E2%2F90%5E2=1
semi-major axis: the longest radius of an ellipse
major axis: the longest diameter of an ellipse
so, in your case semi-major_axis=90;so, major axis will be 180
