Question 668467: The question states, "Identify the curve and find the characteristics listed. then sketch the curve."
x^2 + (y-4)^2= 64 center radius
(x+3)^2 + (y+6)^2 = 49 center raidus eccentricity

someone help! the book doesnt really explain how to do this?

Hi, Standard form is the quideline
Standard Form of an Equation of a Circle is %28x-h%29%5E2+%2B+%28y-k%29%5E2+=+r%5E2
where Pt(h,k) is the center and r is the radius
x^2 + (y-4)^2= 64 center(0,4) radius = 8
(x+3)^2 + (y+6)^2 = 49 center(-3,-6) radius = 7 eccentricity = 0
· At eccentricity = 0 we get a circle
· For 0 < eccentricity < 1 we get an ellipse e+=+sqrt%28a%5E2-b%5E2%29%2Fa
· for eccentricity = 1 we get a parabola
· for eccentricity > 1 we get a hyperbola e+=+sqrt%28a%5E2%2Bb%5E2%29%2Fa
· for infinite eccentricity we get a line
