given equation: %28x-4%29%5E2%2F9%2B%28y%2B2%29%5E2%2F16=1
This is an equation for an ellipse with vertical major axis:
Its standard form: (x-h)^2/b^2-(y-k)^2/a^2=1, (a>b), (h,k)=(x,y) coordinates of center
For given equation: %28x-4%29%5E2%2F9%2B%28y%2B2%29%5E2%2F16=1
center: (4,-2)
a^2=16
a=√16=4
b^2=9
b=√9=3
c^2=a^2-b^2=16-=7
c=√7≈2.7
Foci: (4,-2±c)=(4,-2±2.7)=(4,-4.7) and (4,0.7)
