Question 42040: how do u calculate the focus if the vertex is not at the origin?
Answer by fractalier(6550) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! For a parabola, the distance between the vertex and the focus "p" is related to the "a" in the general equation for a parabola
y = a(x - h)^2 + k
where a = 1/4p
The "a" also tells you the orientation, so you know in which to go from the vertex to the focus...
