Question 23745: The stream of water from some water fountains follows a path in the form of a parabolic arch. For one fountain, the maxium height of the water is 8 cm, and the horizontal distance of the water flow is 12cm.
Find an equation of the parabola. Assume that the water spout is located at the origin.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Hint: Assume the equation to be y = ax^2+bx
and since points (6,8) and (12,0) on the parabola
then try to solve

8 = 36 a + 6b,
0 = 144 a + 12b
for a, b.
