Question 722861: Original problem:find the center, foci, and vertices of the ellipses and determine the lengths of the major and minor axes.
3x^2+4y^2-6x-24y+35=0
MY Work:
3x^2-6x+4y^2-24y=-35
3(x^2-2x+1)+4(y^2-6y+9)=-35+3+9
3(x-1)^2+4(y-3)^2=-23
3/-23(x-1)^2+4/-23(y-3)^2=1

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Your work:

Your error was when you only added 9 to compensate for the 9 you added INSIDE the parentheses containing the terms. There is that little factor of 4 outside of those parentheses, so you needed to add 36 to the RHS

Are you good to go from there? Remember the importance of attention to detail; this sort of oops! will kill you on your SATs.
