You can put this solution on YOUR website! pythagoras theorem is a relation between three sides of a right triangle. That is, the square of the hypotenuse (side opposite the right angle) is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides. We write this relationship,
a^2 +b^2 = c^2
now, we can see this is true by constructing three squares whose sides are c, a, b
and consider the areas of each of these three squares
area of square c is c^2
area of square a is a^2
area of square b is b^2
suppose a=3, b=4, and c=5, so the areas are 9, 16, 25 and
a^2 +b^2 = c^2
9 +16 = 25
25 = 25
