if the sides of the square are 1 ft long then the diagonal (and the diameter of the circle) is sqrt(2) from the pythagorean theorem.
a^2+b^2=c^2
1^2+1^2=2
c=sqrt(2)
the radius of the circle=sqrt(2)/2
area of circle=A=pi%28sqrt%282%29%2F2%29%5E2=pi%282%2F4%29=pi%2F2
