Question 358197: how do you solve the pythagorean theorem
Answer by apachemexican1(64) About Me  (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the formula for the pythagorean theorem is quite simple
a^2 + b^2 = c^2
which can also be
leg1^2+leg2^2= hypotenuse^2
if leg1 = 6
if leg2 = 5
find the hypoteuse

the equation is set up like this
6^2+5^2= c^2 work out the problem
36+25=c^2
61=c^2
you must then find the square root of 61 and of c^2
the square root of c^2 is c
and the square root of 61 is 7.81

now if the hypotenuse is given but only one leg is given
6^2+b^2=12^2
solve
36+b^2=144
subtract 36 from both sides of the equation
36-36+b^2=144-36
b^2=108
find the square root of b^2 and 108
b=10.39
