Question 273448: Ok, so I'v got this question. on The Pythagorean Theorem. There is a diagram that shows a broken post. one side of the post the left side or b2 is given as 2 and the bottom or c2 is given as 18 inches. I was woundering how to get a2 if c2 and b2 are already given?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
i dont get the a2 b2 c2 thing that ur saying as sides but this is how it goes:
if the post is 2in high and the bottom or base distance is 18in then ur looking for the hypotnuse which with the thereom A%5E2%2BB%5E2=C%5E2C=hypotnuse sides =A,B
so its 2%5E2%2B18%5E2=C%5E2
4%2B324=C%5E2
sqrt%28328%29=sqrt%28C%5E2%29
sqrt%28328%29=C
but if u meant 18in as = to C
then its written as
2%5E2%2BB%5E2=18%5E2
4%2BB%5E2=324
sqrt%28B%5E2%29=sqrt%28320%29
B=sqrt%28320%29
