Rule: If |x| < k for some positive number k, then -k+%3C+x+%3C+k

That's the same as saying x+%3C+k and x+%3E+-k (I don't recommend this way because it's a bit clunky compared to the first method)

So that's why |W| < 25 turns into W < 25 and W > -25
