-2 is not equal to 2.

Squaring and then taking the square root can introduce extraneous "solutions."

The fact that  x%5E2 = y%5E2  DOES NOT IMPLIES  that  x = y.



Example:  %28-2%29%5E2 = 2%5E2,   but -2 =/= 2.
