You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The sum of two numbers is 55.
The smaller is 5 less =x
then the larger numbers=x+5
then x+x+5=55
2x+5=55
2x=55-5
2x=50
x=25
bravo

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let the larger number = a
Let the smaller number = b
given:
(1) +a+%2B+b+=+55+
(2) +b+=+a+-+5+
-----------
By substitution:
(1) +a+%2B+a+-+5+=+55+
(1) +2a+-+5+=+55+
(1) +2a+=+60+
(1) +a+=+30+
and
(2) +b+=+a+-+5+
(2) +b+=+30+-+5+
(2) +b+=+25+
The numbers are 25 and 30
