In a class of 24 students

Let x and (24-x) represent the number of boys and girls respectively

Question states***ratio of boys to girls is 3:5

 x%2F%2824-x%29+=+3%2F5    |Cross Multiplying to solve

    5x = 3(24-x)

    5x = 3·24 -3x

    8x = 3·24

     x = 3·24/8 = 9 boys  and 15 girls

CHECKING our Answer***

  9/15 = 3/5. a 3:5 ratio
