Question 481093: Person A and Person B are doing target practice. Person A hits the target with a probability of 0.8, while Person B hits the target with a probability of 0.9.
What is the probability that Person B hit the target given that both of them fired and exactly one shot hit the target?
a. 0.18
b. 0.30
c. 0.69
d. 0.90
I came up with .50*.80 =.40 and .50*.90=.45 thus .40*.45=0.18 Is this correct?
Thank you

The events are independent.
---
P(B hit and A missed) = 0.9*0.2 = 0.18

If exactly one of them hits the target, then the probability is 0.80*0.10 + 0.90*0.20 = 0.26.
Hence the the probability that person B hit the target given that both of them fired is %280.90%2A0.20%29%2F0.26+=+9%2F13+=+0.6923, or 0.69 to 2 decimal places.

c. 0.69
