Question 426971: Help me please, I am going to flunk this class if I don't get at least one answer correct!
What critical region(s) for z would be used to test the hypotheses: H_0:μ=10 and H_a:μ≠10, for a = 0.05 ?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Hi
What critical region(s) for z would be used to test the hypotheses:
H_0:μ=10 and H_a:μ≠10, for a = 0.05
1) See chart below for the various confidence levels
2) As sample mean, in the question posed, could be more or less than 10.
Two-tailed critcal regions would be the appropriate choice:
either z<-1.96 or z>1.96 depending on the sample mean being <10 or >10
a a/2 crtical regions
90% 0.1 5% z <-1.645 z >+1.645
95% 0.05 2.50% z <-1.96 z >+1.96
98% 0.02 1% z <-2.33 z >+2.33
99% 0.01 0.50% z<-2.575 z >+2.575
