Question 353226: The probability that a person owns a microwave oven is 0.75, that a person owns a compact disk pleyer is 0.25, and that a person owns both a microwave and a cd player, 0.16. Find the probability that a person owns either a microwave or a cd player, but not both.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

PROBABILITY OF HAVING A MICROWAVE P(A) = 0.75

PROBABILITY OF HAVING A CD PLAYER P(B) = 0.25

PROBABILITY OF HAVING BOTH P(A ∩ B) = 0.16

NOW, WE HAVE TO FIND THE PROBABILITY OF HAVING EITHER OF THEM P (A U B)

P(A U B) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A ∩ B)
= 0.75 + 0.25 - 0.16

= 0.84
